Los Angeles Lakers luxury suites are ideal for entertaining clients

A basketball franchise that has enjoyed immense success in the form of 16 NBA championships over the years, the Lakers started out in Minnesota back in 1947. They were assembled from the folded Detroit Gems and called Minneapolis home, naming themselves after the state’s nickname “Land of 10,000 Lakes”.

Powered by George Mikan, the first bona fide star of the NBA, the Lakers captured several titles in their early history, despite financial problems which ultimately caused the team to uproot and move to Los Angeles for a fresh start. Despite the business turmoil, the team continued to win.

Racking up championship after championship in the 1950s, the Lakers saw a championship drought in the 1960s. Despite repeated trips to the NBA Finals with star players like Elgin Baylor and Jerry West, they were bested by the Boston Celtics over and over, leading to one of the biggest rivalries in all of Basketball. Even the addition of Wilt Chamberlain could not bring the title back to the City of Angels. 1972 saw the Lakers finally recapture the title, but a repeat was not in the cards as the championship would not belong to LA again until 1980.

The team turned the page and started a new chapter in their history in 1980. Under Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson, the Lakers recaptured their early greatness, putting on an electrifying show night after night in front of a hometown crowd which would include some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. The Showtime Lakers would win five titles in the 80s with contributions from James Worthy and head coach Pat Riley.

Following exits by Abdul-Jabbar and Johnson in the early 90s, the Lakers went through a lull. However, the lull did not last very long with the Lakers rising to prominence once again in 1996 with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal joining the team under head coach Phil Jackson. Today, O’Neal and Jackson are Hall of Famers with Bryant to follow suit as soon as he is eligible. Together, the trio took home the title as NBA Champions in 2000, 2001, and 2002. Bryant and Jackson would go on to win again in 2004, 2008, 2009, and 2010, earning a place in NBA history as one of the most decorated franchises.

Lebron James would sign as a free agent, but the team just couldn’t gel together to turn into a contender. Frank Vogel signed on to serve as head coach after the 2018-2019 season as the team underwent a major transition. The entire roster was shaken up in a multi-team deal that landed Anthony Davis in LA. A bonafide star, Davis will compliment LeBron James well on the court. Rajon Rondo has re-signed for another two years with the team. Picking up Danny Green from Toronto on a two year deal worth $30 million and snagging DeMarcus Cousins from Golden State on a one year deal, the Lakers are totally rebuilt.

After all of these changes, only one thing is certain: It is going to be a crazy season in LA. More Information about the history of the Los Angeles Lakers can be found by clicking here.
