Globe Life Park in Arlington

Located between Dallas and Fort Worth, Arlington, Texas is the home of baseball’s Texas Rangers, who play out of the magnificent venue known today as Globe Life Park in Arlington. Originally opening in time for the 1994 season, this grand structure was designed to emulate parks of the past that were specific to baseball, instead of the multi-purpose venues that began popping up in the 1970s and 80s.

Borrowing several aspects from around the league and incorporating them into the construction, Globe Life Park in Arlington makes each fan feel like they are in an historic baseball setting. Featuring a roofed home run porch in right field borrowed from the Tigers, the white metal façade in center field reminiscent of Yankee Stadium, along with other homages to parks such as Fenway, Ebbets Field, and Comiskey Park.

When monetary issues forced the Washington Senators owner to look to other cities to be the home for his ball club, Arlington, Texas immediately stood out as the front runner. Its mayor had been trying to obtain a professional team for some time and already had a stadium built to Major League specifications. Approval was granted and the team moved to Texas for the 1972 season and adopted a new name, the Texas Rangers.

Although the franchise never achieved the pinnacle of success in Major League Baseball, with no World Series titles to their credit, they have had a slew of major figures come through their city in the form of players, managers, and owners.

An Investment group headed by former President George W. Bush purchased the team back in 1989. While owner, Bush moved the team to a new stadium, currently known as Globe Life Park in Arlington. He left the team in 1994 when he was elected Governor of Texas and ultimately sold the team in 1998 before devoting himself to his presidential campaign.

The club’s first manager was Hall of Famer Ted Williams, who only stayed in Texas for one season, displeased over the move. Other notable managers through the years included Whitey Herzog, Billy Martin, Bobby Valentine, Buck Showalter, and Ron Washington.

Talented players on the field have included Ivan Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez, Rafael Palmeiro, Alex Rodriguez, Michael Young, and Nolan Ryan.

Today, Jeff Banister serves as manager for the club and with the roster he has at his disposal, a Fall Classic may be in the cards for the near future. A stacked clubhouse featuring top MLB talent in Adrian Beltre, Elvis Andrus, and Cole Hamels is sure to keep the fans at Globe Life Park in Arlington coming through the turnstiles each day to watch their home town team take the field. Joey Gallo continues to wow the fans with his high level of play and Shin-Soo Choo is as reliable as they come. Picking up Doug Fister to be the number two starting pitcher gives this club another big boost.
