The lone MLB team based out of Canada, the Toronto Blue Jays have been representing our neighbors to the north in professional baseball since 1977. Like any expansion team, the first few seasons in Toronto are remembered for their struggles. However, by 1983 they had turned into a team with a winning record. Just two seasons later they improved enough to capture their first division title. Soon the Blue Jays grew into an American Leagues East powerhouse, culminating with back to back World Series championships in 1992 and 1993.

Toronto was rocking during this time of baseball euphoria as their beloved Blue Jays, led by memorable players including Roberto Alomar, Joe Carter, Devon White, and Jon Olerud were racking up the division championships on their way to true baseball glory.

In perhaps the greatest single moment in franchise history, Joe Carter stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning of game six with Toronto trailing 6-5. On a 2-2 count, with two men on base, Carter ripped a shot off Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Mitch Williams that sailed over the fence for a three run walk-off home run to win the World Series!

Following the 1993 season, Blue Jays baseball digressed into a middle of the pack team. They spent the next 21 seasons out of playoff contention before finally winning back their division in 2015.

The 2017 season ended with a regular season record of 80-82. A disappointing tally, this put Toronto in 4th place in the AL East and prohibited them from advancing to the postseason. Unhappy with this outcome, manager John Gibbons and his squad are looking to make a comeback in 2018 and win back their division from the Boston Red Sox.

This team is led by their centerfielder, Kevin Pillar. From the base path to the outfield, he is a true star for Toronto. Lining up on either side of him are Teoscar Hernandez and Curtis Granderson. Hernandez joined the team last season, coming from Houston, while Granderson is a new addition in 2018, playing for both the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers last year. He signed a five year deal in the offseason, ensuring that the fans in Toronto will be seeing him for a long time to come.

Russell Martin is as solid a catcher as any team could hope to have behind the plate. Calling the game from this all-important position, he relies on talent and experience to get the job done. This helps to ease the tension for an infield that includes Justin Smoak at first base, rookie Lourdes Gurriel at second, newcomer Aledmys Diaz at shortstop, and Josh Donaldson at third base. Donaldson is a three time all-star that had a huge year in 2015, earning the AL Hank Aaron Award, Silver Slugger Award, AL RBI leader, AL runs scored leader, and AL MVP. He won the Silver Slugger Award again in 2016 and Toronto is hoping he can have another great year for them.

Pitching is always important in baseball, putting the Blue Jays in a great spot with starters JA Happ, Marcus Stroman, and Aaron Sanchez. Off the field issues have sidelined Roberto Osuna, making Seung-Hwan Oh the new closer for Toronto.

Blue Jays fans know what great baseball looks like. They have seen it over the years from some of the best players ever to suit up in a Toronto Blue Jays uniform, including Joe Carter, George Ball, Jose Bautista, Roy Halladay, Dave Stieb, and Roberto Alomar.
